It merits noting that today is the third anniversary of our little photoblog project. 2,928 posts & 1,794 comments & two new babies later, here we are! I’m not sure where we’re going in our fourth year but I’m confident we’ll continue to see new and interesting places & faces, and that (here and there) we’ll have a technical or methodological innovation to give surprise. PS. Flickr says that this is the most popular photo I’ve taken since starting the project, taken on November 22nd, 2008, right after I had returned from California for Fakesgiving. Steven and I were doing some raking and the sun came out just as she was sitting in the right spot. But instead of using this photo I went with this one from the dog park for my POTD. It has been pointed out that our tagline “bicoastal, bimodal, bionic” isn’t really correct any longer as we no longer have anyone representing on the west coast. So, in an effort to keep things fresh, let’s update our tagline and header. Feel free to leave suggestions for either in the comments.  Some of you may have heard about Foss Fest, a music festival that some friends of the blog are putting on in Somerville on September 5th. Unfortunately I won’t be there but would like to open the floor for an official Foss Fest Challenge. Go, have fun, shoot, and the best/blurriest/most commented/highest cop ratio to illicit beer (with valid non-zero denominator) shot of the festival will get a commemorative Foss Fest STAFF t-shirt. Conveniently this event also falls on Guest Post Sunday so all-known-comers are welcome to play. Cheers!  Tomorrow morning, before sunrise. Bust out the tripods, get away from the city, help make it happen. Best results seem to come with long exposures at high ISO, fish-eye lens optional. More than 100 meteors per hour!!  Midnight! Due to judicious rule breaking we had 16 entries in the SMHB Birthday Challenge (that’s more than both dog-a-palooza and the NDH challenge put together). There’s no formal judging criteria but I think we can safely rule out anything with disgusto meat in it. My own personal vote is for pie since I’m biased towards confections though this dirty face is pretty cute. What do you guys think?  The intersection of Steven and cake is pretty sad, returning no results. Steven and birthday is not much better, with one sleepy looking picture from two years ago. So since we’ve got a FAIL on those two, I’m propose a new tag, the SMHB Birthday Challenge! You’ve got 11 hours east coasters, get on it!! |
