Non-Hartford Whalers’ Church

This is the Seaman’s Bethel, Herman Melville’s old church in New Bedford. A lot of whalers (not the ones who moved to Carolina) worshiped here in the 19th century. Apparently ol’ Herm sat near the back.

There was no plaque to specify which pew Ron Francis sat in…

So I kinda remember that the Whalers used to exist, which led me to this interesting page – defunct NHL teams. Other than Hartford I hadn’t heard of any of these.

The Cleveland Barons franchise is the last professional team in any of the major North American sports leagues to become defunct. Many other teams have moved, but the Barons merged with the old North Stars and just plain ceased to exist. That hasn’t happened in any of the four major leagues since.

I remember the post-1967 teams other than the Golden Seals and the KC Scouts. They were before my time.
